Shangri-la Institute for Sustainable Communities is seeking a full-time employee, based in our Beijing office, to lead our communications and fundraising strategy

Organisation Background:
The Shangri-la Institute for Sustainable Communities (SISC) is a registered independent Chinese NGO which traces its roots to Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, where in 1996 key staff members started work on nature conservation and community development projects. We support community-initiated education, conservation and cultural projects that empower local communities to engage in sustainable development. Location: Based in our Beijing Office with occasional travel to Shangri-la, other areas of China and abroad for international conferences.

Contract: 2 years with possibility of extension

Job Responsibilities include:
Coordinating the implementation of our communication and fundraising strategy through:
o Writing project proposals, reports and updates
o Finding new fundraising opportunities
o Editing and Translating
o Developing and editing the website content
o Strengthening links with partners
o Liaising with project members and donors
o Designing and developing a core suite of communication materials such as brochures, posters etc.
o Assistance with other project components

Requirements:
o Native English speaker
o Ability to speak and read Chinese to a high standard
o Excellent English writing ability (academic standard)
o Computer and internet skills, including Microsoft office and Adobe software
o Ability to work independently and on own initiative
o Ability to work in a team and in a multicultural setting
o Excellent organisational skills
o Dedication to working in the NGO/not for profit sector
o Culturally and politically sensitive

Desirable:
o Knowledge of sustainable development and education
o Design skills including Photoshop, Pages and Indesign
o Currently holds a local working visa (we will provide documentation for this to be transferred to our organisation)

Remuneration
o Valuable experience of and exposure to NGO and development work in China
o Salary is negotiable and commensurate with experience
o Support for processing work and residence permits
o Annual return flight home and insurance may be provided
