Job Description
As a member of the Bureau’s team of translators, you will work on the official English translations of central government documents, including the premier’s annual report on the work of the government, state policy documents, and the works of Chinese leaders.
Your main role will be to revise and polish translations to ensure accuracy and readability. You will contribute to the team through your strong understanding of the English language and your self-motivation to research and enhance the quality of translations.
You Will Be
A native English speaker with excellent written communication skills
You Will Have
A bachelor’s degree, preferably in China studies, international relations, or journalism
High proficiency in Chinese (particularly reading)
Previous experience in translation or editing (preferred)
A good knowledge of contemporary China
Salary and Benefits
Salary: 15,000-20,000 RMB per month
Apartment: You will have the option of a heavily-subsidized and fully furnished apartment located in the heart of Beijing (Xidan). The apartment is a fifteen-minute walk from work, and is ideally located for access to shops, restaurants, cinemas, and public transport.
Housing Allowance: Should you choose to find your own housing you will be given a housing allowance of 18,000 yuan per year on top of your salary.
Insurance: The Bureau offers social insurance (basic health care and state pension) to all its employees.
Paid Leave: Foreign employees under a one-year contract are entitled to 15 days of paid leave after their first six months. .

About us
A dedicated translation organization directly subordinate to the CPC Central Committee. Founded in 1961 with the approval of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee, the Central Document Translation Center (CDTC), previously the Office for the Translation of the Works of Mao Zedong, is a department of the Central Compilation and Translation Bureau. With around 70 full-time employees, including foreign experts, the center currently comprises nine sections (eight translation sections and a general office) and translates into seven foreign languages: English, French, Spanish, Russian, Japanese, German, and Arabic. Having translated almost 100 million characters of text over a period of more than 60 years, the CDTC has provided an important source of reference to facilitate international understanding of China’s key policy developments.
The principal translator of Party and government documents in China. The CDTC specializes in translating important documents of the CPC and Chinese government into a number of foreign languages. These documents include the writings of Party and state leaders; major documents of CPC national congresses and plenary sessions of the CPC Central Committee; principal documents of the National People’s Congress (NPC) and Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC); and other important documents of the Party and government.
A center for the cultivation of political translators. Responding to the requirements of the CPC Central Committee, the CDTC has drawn on its considerable resources to support the cultivation of translation talent in China. Having established partnerships with a number of domestic universities and research institutes, the center has developed a broad range of approaches for the cultivation of translation talent, such as mentoring doctoral students, participating in the training of MTI students, providing internships, and co-hosting the Forum on the Translation and Research of Central Government Documents.
