BASIC JOB DESCRIPTION:
Model garments and other apparel to display clothing before prospective buyers at fashion shows, private showings, retail establishments, or photographer. May pose for photos to be used for advertising purposes. May pose as subject for paintings, sculptures, and other types of artistic expression.
JOB DUTIES AND TASKS FOR: "Model"
1) Apply makeup to face and style hair to enhance appearance, considering such factors as color, camera techniques, and facial features.
2) Display clothing and merchandise in commercials, advertisements, and/or fashion shows.
3) Dress in sample or completed garments, and select accessories.
4) Follow strict routines of diet, sleep, and exercise to maintain appearance.
5) Gather information from agents concerning the pay, dates, times, provisions, and lengths of jobs.
6) Pose as directed, or strike suitable interpretive poses for promoting and selling merchandise or fashions during appearances, filming, or photo sessions.
7) Pose for artists and photographers.
8) Promote products and services in television commercials, on film, or in videos.
9) Stand, turn, and walk to demonstrate features of garments for observers at fashion shows, private showings, and retail establishments.
10) Work closely with photographers, fashion coordinators, directors, producers, stylists, make-up artists, other models, and clients to produce the desired looks, and to finish photo shoots on schedule.
11) Assemble and maintain portfolios, print composite cards, and travel to go-sees to obtain jobs.
12) Hand out samples or gifts, demonstrate products, and converse with children and adults while dressed in costume.
13) Inform prospective purchasers about models, numbers, and prices of garments, the garments' designers, and where garments can be purchased.
14) Make many quick changes backstage during fashion shows and yet maintain poised appearance before audiences.
15) Record rates of pay and durations of jobs on vouchers.
16) Report job completions to the company and obtain information about future appointments.
17) Wear character costumes and impersonate characters portrayed to amuse children and adults.

5) Selling or Influencing Others -- Convincing others to buy merchandise/goods or to otherwise change their minds or actions.

NATURE OF THE WORK
"Models" WILL pose for artists, photographers, or customers to help advertise a variety of products, including clothing, cosmetics, food, and appliances.
WORKING CONDITIONS
"Models" work in a variety of conditions, from comfortable studios and runway fashion shows to outdoors in all weather conditions.
WORK SCHEDULES
Many models work part time and have unpredictable work schedules. Models must be ready on short notice to work for a show or a photo shoot, and the number of hours worked will vary depending on the job. Many models experience periods of unemployment.
Schedules can be demanding and stressful, although some models may enjoy the frequent travel to meet clients in different cities.
IMPORTANT QUALITIES
Specific requirements depend on the client, but most models must be within certain ranges for height, weight, and clothing size to meet the needs of fashion designers, photographers, and advertisers. Requirements may change slightly from time to time, as the perceptions of physical beauty change.
Courteous. Models must interact with a large number of people, such as agents, photographers, and customers. It is important to be polite, professional, prompt, and respectful.
Discipline. A model's career depends on the maintenance of his or her physical characteristics. Models must control their diet, exercise regularly, and get enough sleep to stay healthy and photogenic. Haircuts, pedicures, and manicures are necessary work-related expenses.
Listening skills. Models must be able to take direction from photographers and clients during photo shoots and commercials.
Organizational skills. Models must be able to manage their portfolios and their work and travel schedules.
Persistence. Competition for jobs is strong and most clients have specific needs for each job, so patience and persistence are essential.
Photogenic. Models spend most of their time being photographed. They must be comfortable in front of a camera for photographers to capture the desired look.
Style. Models must have a basic knowledge of hair styling, makeup, and clothing. For photographic and runway work, models must be able to move gracefully and confidently.

Compensation is negotiable and depends on the following criteria:
