PYP teachers work for LYBS who enroll students from grades 1-5. As a foreign homeroom teacher you will typically instruct students on a multiple subject basis collaborating course content within your grade under the guidance of your grade coordinator and sharing admin duties for your given class with your local homeroom teacher. Subject teachers tend not to be homeroom teachers and focus on one or two specialist subjects for classes in grade 1 – 5. Some teachers may be required to undertake additional duties/supervision to increase teaching hours within the contractual guidelines. To do so, they must plan to use the curricula given in their relevant subject and program.
Typical work-related duties:
Preparing, collaborating and teaching all areas of the IB curriculum;
Keeping up to date with changes and developments in the structure of the IB curriculum;
Taking responsibility for the progress and development of a class of primary-age pupils;
Organizing the classroom and learning resources and creating displays to encourage a positive learning environment;
Planning, preparing and presenting lessons that cater for the needs of the whole ability range within their class;
Motivating pupils with enthusiastic, imaginative presentation;
Marking work, giving appropriate feedback and maintaining records of pupils' progress and development via assigned academic systems.
Meeting requirements for the assessment and recording of pupils' development;
Coordinating activities and resources within a specific area of the curriculum, and supporting colleagues in the delivery of this specialist area;
Working with others to plan and coordinate work;
Organizing and taking part in school events, outings and activities which may take place at weekends or in the evening;
Liaising with colleagues and working in a flexible and respectful manner;
Managing pupil behavior/discipline in the classroom and on school campus at all times, applying appropriate and effective measures in cases of misbehavior;
Communicating with homeroom teachers, parents and guardians regarding pupils' progress and participating/presenting in departmental meetings, parents' evenings and whole school training events;
Supervising, encouraging and supporting the work of new teachers;
Participating in and organizing extracurricular activities, such as outings, social activities, clubs and sporting events;
Undergoing regular observations and participating in regular internal and external training workshops;
Engage underperforming and over students in EAL and other tutoring or classes as necessary;
Be punctual and wearing appropriate attire for all work-related duties
