Primary Role/Function: School Counselor The School Counselor provides individual support and guidance services to students, including both emotional and academic counseling. .

Qualifications: Bachelor or Master Degree in Psychology, Guidance and/or School Counseling; a current license for position (preferred); minimum three years (3) of counseling, teaching, or other related experience working with children similar in age to the position hired.
Reports to: Primary School Principal
Areas of Responsibility: In addition to the primary functions noted above, the Guidance Counselor shall have the following responsibilities and other administrative tasks to support the social/emotional well-being of children
1) Implements individual and group counseling methods that are appropriate to grade and maturity level of students.
2) Serves and actively participates in the school’s Student Support Teams.
3) Collaborates with division principal to coordinate the school’s Character Education programs designed to promote and develop a positive and nurturing school climate.
4) Works with teachers/staff to identify and support “at risk” students.
5) Consults with school staff, administration and parents in resolving student’s academic, social, emotional and behavioral concerns.
6) Conducts professional development workshops for teachers and parents 7) Develops and maintains family outreach programs and community partnerships that support academic and guidance programs. 8) Advocate on behalf of the student and/or his/her family. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect social/emotional welfare of students. 9) Understands, evaluates, and interprets academic performance data in order to facilitate professional guidance when communicating to students, parents, guardians, and staff.
10) Collaborates with the Special Education department (if applicable) to connect students, parents/guardians and staff with specialized referral agencies for psychological evaluation.
11) Collaborates with Special Education, teachers, and parents in the development, implementation, and evaluation of behavioral and academic interventions.
12) Perform other duties as assigned by building principals or his/her designee.
