Job Scope
The Music Teacher is responsible for teaching music as part of the school curriculum. The music teacher will follow the guidelines as set out by the IB and which includes the theory and practice of general music, singing, and playing musical instruments. They should also prepare students for exams in music and assists the staff of the school in the improvement and appreciation of music instruction.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
• Teaching general styles of music.
• Teaching classical piano, practical, and theory.
• Teaching singing to students from beginner to advanced level.
• Incorporating musical instruments and movement in lessons.
• Planning and implementing a program of instruction and lesson plans.
• Differentiating music curriculum to meet the needs of the individual student and the student body.
• Preparing students for school concerts and planned music experiences.
• Providing opportunities for music ensembles including rock band, choir and musicals.
• Preparing students for practical and exams.
• Inspiring and motivating students to extend themselves to after-school music clubs.
• Building relationships and mentoring students.
• Ensuring up-to-date knowledge and awareness of examination requirements
• Maintaining professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the school and/or in self-selected professional growth activities.
• Communicating with parents and school counselors on pupil progress.
• Maintaining care/responsibility for school-owned music, musical instruments, and equipment to prevent loss or abuse.
• Cooperating with the Head of School and staff in providing musical programs for school assemblies, open houses, parent meetings, and other events.
• Performing any other duties as may be assigned by the administration.
Communication Responsibilities
Build a communication bridge between parents and the school. Communicate with parents as needed.
Provide bi-weekly updates regarding what has been covered in class and what is coming up in the next week.
Respond to parents’ concerns honestly or pass parents’ concerns to the team leader.
Meet with parents (in parent-teacher interviews or whenever necessary) to communicate about academic or social/emotional issues.
Record and address all kinds of problems and complaints from parents in a timely manner, transferring relevant information to related departments and providing feedback promptly.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Music or Music Education or related field (Master’s degree preferred).
Valid teaching certification/licensure.
Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience.
Understanding of the IB philosophy and teaching methodologies is a plus.
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, staff, and students, parents.
Patience, flexibility, and a passion for working with young learners.
Proficiency in using educational technology and digital tools.
