About the city
Guangzhou is the largest city in the world's largest conurbation (the Pearl River Delta: pop. 65 million). A leading commercial and industrial city, it has 11 districts under its jurisdiction with a total area of 7,434 square km (2,870 sq mi). At the end of 2019, the population of the city's administrative area was estimated at 15,300,000.

3. The Canton Fair
Guangzhou is the country's largest commodity manufacturing city, so it is appropriate that China's largest commodities trade fair is held there. The Canton fair is held in April/May and October/November each year and attracts hundreds of thousands of people from all over the world. It is honored as "China's Number One Exhibition". Nearby, Shenzhen and Dongguan compose the world's largest electronics manufacturing area, and thus, large flocks of business people go for electronics trade.

Guangzhou Weather
Guangzhou has a humid subtropical climate with plenty of sunshine and rainfall and no snow. Summers are long, humid, and hot, and winters are short, mild, and sunny.
From May to October daytime temperatures often exceed 30°C (86°F). Even in the coolest time, from December to February, the temperature still climbs to around 20°C (68°F) and seldom drops under 10°C (50°F) at night.

Guangzhou Transportation
Guangzhou is the top transportation hub of southern China and has very convenient transport systems. Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport flights reach out to over 40 countries as well as to all parts of China. Its railway (particularly high-speed trains), highway, water transportation, and city transportation systems are also well developed. Most tourists prefer to use the city's several big bullet train stations for domestic travel.

About the School
Our school was founded by Zhang Zhidong, the Governor of Guangdong and Guangxi of the Chin Government then, in 1888. The name Guangya, in Chinese traditional culture, stands for both broad-mindedness (the meaning of Guang) and integrity (the meaning of Ya). The connotation of the school’s name is her education philosophy—to educate students and help them become broad-minded and with integrity.
In the last 135 years, Guangya has educated hundreds upon hundreds elites, and is praised as the “Living Witness of the Development of China’s Contemporary Education”. On the campus, the stone-stools, stone-piers, aged-bridges, stone-monuments, ancient-carves, statues of the ancient wise men, reliefs and couplet-plaques are all the historical remains which are flowing with the scent of history, tradition and culture, and all together create a lively, healthy and prosperous campus atmosphere.
In the very early years of this school, its founder, Governor Zhang, put forward the idea of “traditional Chinese values aids with western management and technology”, encouraging the then Guangya students to study the traditional Chinese values and the western technology and science both whole-heartedly. Over the years, Guangya has successfully developed its distinctive “Bo Ya Curriculum”, a supplementary and innovative curriculum to the National Curriculum, catering the needs of its students aged 13 to 18 on both main campus and the Huadu campus. Each year, students find themselves fulfilling their potentials in the 80 student clubs on the two campuses, and bringing home numerous awards in contests and competitions and forums on both the provincial, national and international levels. Being the Modeling School of Internationalized Education of Guangzhou, Guangya, since 2013, also developed an independent and characterized school-based International Program, whose aim is to cultivate international elites with global visions and innovation, and well versed in Chinese tradition and culture.
