【Specification】
1.Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant subject;
2.Recognised teaching qualification for the required age range (e.g. B.Ed., PGCE);
3.Minimum of three years teaching experience in teaching the relevant subject in a senior school setting;
4.Minimum of two years’ experience leading a successful Department;
5.Previous experience of teaching ESL students;
6.Sensitivity to the cultural differences found in China and the willingness to develop and maintain a cross-cultural approach to work;
7.A positive attitude, professional collegial attributes, with a, ‘can do’, attitude ;
8.Committed to safeguarding and suitable to work with children in a boarding school setting.

【Responsibilities】
1.Manage departmental staff, including teaching assistants, ensuring high standards of professionalism amongst the team;
2.Promote the academic progress and wellbeing of individual students;
3.Support the relevant subject teaching throughout the school while keeping an operational focus within the Upper Senior School. Meet with the Heads of department in other sections of the school to develop collegiality and an `all through' approach to teaching;
4.Monitor and develop the quality of teaching, assessment and feedback within the department;
5.Observe staff lessons, formally on a set basis, while encouraging an open-door policy with regular drop-ins to support teachers. Ensure an awareness of professional practise;
6.Encourage and facilitate CPD on an individual basis while ensuring department members are supported and encouraged to develop their knowledge and skill set;
7.Complete academic appraisal of departmental staff on an annual basis;
8.Ensure all teachers within the department set appropriately challenging lessons for all students;
9.Plan assessments, feedback and interventions within the department to achieve excellent results;
10.Create, review and deliver Schemes of Work and Curriculum Maps, passing on the information to pupils and parents.;
11.Collaborate with the purchasing team to procure all teaching resources;
12.Make use of technology to deliver the curriculum, in-line with the school’s strategy and planning;
13.Run department meetings, ensuring minutes are maintained;
14.Conduct regular communication with the Assistant Head of Upper Senior School / Line Manager;
15.Respond to parental queries in a timely manner;
16.Ensure a collegiate approach with other departments;
17.Ensure open communication with department members, passing on information as appropriate;
18.Communicate accurate and effective data regarding exams, ensuring information is provided to the exams officer;
19.Provide timely reports following public examination results to the Assistant Head of Upper Senior School, analysing pupil performance;
20.Review the departmental handbook on an annual basis;
21.Take a full and active role in the wider life of the school, always exemplifying the values and ethos of the school;
22.Support day and residential trips to enhance and encourage the skills and experience of all students. Ensure all school trip procedures are followed;
23.Attend assemblies, registering attendance of students and supervising students whether before, during or after school;
24.Offer extra-curricular activities to support the ethos and enrichment of the school’s provision;
25.Contribute to and attend whole school community events throughout the year and attend school events where subject representation is required;
26.Participate in marketing activities to encourage enrolment into the school;
27.Participate in the delivery of boarding provision;
28.Complete any other reasonable duty as requested by the line manager.
