Position: International Head of Primary
Reports To: Head of School
Line Management: Grade-Level Leaders, Heads of Departments (HoDs), Library Staff, School Office
Overview
The Head of Primary is a key member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), bridging the Primary School staff and the Head of School. This role encompasses both teaching and administrative responsibilities, requiring exceptional leadership, organizational, and communication skills. The Head of Primary supports the effective daily management of the Primary School (K–G5), fosters a positive learning environment, and ensures alignment with the school’s philosophy, objectives, and global education model.
Key Responsibilities Leadership
• Oversee the day-to-day management of the Primary School (K–G5) in line with the school’s Philosophy and Objectives.
• Collaborate closely with co-leaders to develop and enhance the international curriculum, particularly in English and Science.
• Lead the design, implementation, and assessment of the Primary curriculum, ensuring continuous improvement.
• Conduct professional appraisals for Primary School sta? in accordance with school-wide policies.
• Support and mentor teachers, addressing disciplinary or professional issues as needed.
• Develop and manage the induction program for new teachers, familiarizing them with the school’s global education model.
• Advise the Head of School on staffing, budgetary, and facility needs for the Primary School.
• Assist in recruiting Primary School teachers, ensuring alignment with the school’s educational standards.
• Optimize the use of assigned staff, budgets, and facilities to achieve Primary School goals.
• Contribute to the school-wide strategic plan and develop the Primary School Development Plan.
• Maintain accurate student records in collaboration with the school o?ice.
• Oversee daily teacher coverage for absences and ensure continuity of instruction.
• Facilitate regular staff meetings to discuss curriculum, teaching strategies, behavioral expectations, timetabling, and future development plans.
• Address concerns about staff conduct, parent-teacher relationships, and teacher- student interactions.
• Monitor and improve student safety and procedures during playtime, lunchtime, and other daily routines.
• Organize special events (e.g., camps, assemblies, themed days) and ensure adequate resources, such as stationery supplies.
Teaching and Learning
• Lead professional development programs for teachers, fostering continuous growth and mentorship.
• Review and refine curriculum guides, schemes of work, and teaching plans to promote differentiation, inquiry, and cross-curricular themes.
• Analyze instructional effectiveness and assessment data, identifying areas for improvement.
• Ensure the availability of teaching materials and resources to support instructional goals.
• Guide and oversee enrichment programs that enhance student learning experiences.
• Strong in Academics, capable and adaptable to enhance the international curriculum.
Student Support
• Implement and promote the school’s Character Education program.
• Interview prospective families and guide new students through the admissions
process.
• Develop support programs for students with additional educational needs.
• Collaborate with the School Nurse and Counselor to ensure the safety and welfare of students.
• Oversee reporting processes to parents, ensuring effective communication of students’ academic and social development.
Community Engagement
• Build and maintain positive relationships with parents, fostering trust and collaboration.
• Collaborate with other school leaders to align curriculum, policies, and student welfare initiatives.
• Communicate school policies and procedures effectively to parents and staff.
• Represent the school at educational conferences and community events, ensuring
visibility and thought leadership.
• Meet regularly with parent representatives to discuss school matters, emphasizing alignment with the school’s Philosophy and Objectives.
• Collaborate with local leadership to enhance opportunities for Primary School students.
Student Admissions
• Support the marketing and admissions team through open days, expos, and promotional events.
• Participate in new student interviews and retention efforts.
• Explore initiatives to increase student enrollment, particularly in lower grades.
Professional Appraisal
The Head of Primary’s performance will be appraised annually by the Head of School, based on pre-established criteria.
Qualifications:
• Master’s degree or above in Education or a related field.
• Valid teaching qualification or certification.
• Proven leadership experience in a primary or international school setting.
Experience:
• Minimum of 10 years of teaching experience, with at least 3 years in a similar
leadership role.
• Familiarity with international curricula (e.g., IB PYP, British, or American).
• Experience in curriculum development, teacher mentoring, and team management.
Skills and Competencies:
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
