Position: PYP Coordinator
Reports to: Directly reports to the Executive Principal and ultimately to the SEB
designated leadership. Overview:
As the PYP Coordinator, the role involves driving the development of the school’s IB
curriculum, fostering instructional innovation, and facilitating cross-disciplinary
coordination. Responsibilities include strategic leadership in IB pedagogy, curriculum
coordination, teaching research, and staff training to ensure educational quality. Key Responsibilities:
1. Liaise closely with the IBO to ensure alignment with IB curriculum requirements
(1) Promote the understanding and utilization of PYP-related documents. Ensure all
teachers have access to the latest IB publications for the PYP. Identify and
implement suitable teaching management systems upon SMT approval, overseeing their maintenance.
(2) Establish and maintain archives for the school’s PYP teaching plans, including the
"Programme of Inquiry", syllabi, and Exhibition records.
(3) Ensure the "Programme of Inquiry" is clearly articulated and publicly accessible across all school levels.
(4) Design and implement teaching and student assessment frameworks.
(5) Support the Executive Principal in building an effective home-school
communication system to enhance IB community engagement.
2. Lead professional development for teachers in IB pedagogy and assist in teacher
recruitment process
(1) Guide teachers in planning, implementing, and reflecting on Units of Inquiry
through workshops, model lessons, and peer-sharing sessions.
(2) Develop annual teacher training plans (on- and off-campus) and execute them upon SMT approval.
(3) Provide IB curriculum induction for new teachers to deepen their understanding of IB philosophy and classroom practices, and help new teachers adapt to the
new working environment as soon as possible.
(4) Assist teachers and students in completing PYP Exhibitions and unit-related activities.
(5) Assist in the teacher recruitment process by conducting professional evaluations
of instructional competencies during candidate interviews, trial lessons, and probationary period assessments. Provide expert assessments to inform hiring decisions regarding pedagogical skills and classroom performance.
3. Oversee teaching plan implementation and provide feedback
(1) Develop teaching plans and complete the course schedule setup in accordance
with the school's curriculum offerings. (2) Conduct regular classroom observations (minimum 2 per teacher per semester), document observations, and provide written feedback with actionable improvement suggestions. (3) Monitor adherence to teaching schedules and promptly address potential deviations or emergencies.
(4) Support the Executive Principal in managing teaching emergencies, mitigating impacts, and proposing disciplinary actions per school policies. Report outcomes to leadership.
4. Manage IB evaluation and accreditation processes
(1) Serve as the primary liaison with the IBO, ensuring compliance with evaluation, accreditation, and authorization requirements. Communicate updates to the SEB
and SMT.
(2) Organize and archive documentation for IB evaluations, accreditations, and
authorizations. 5. Fulfill teaching responsibilities per school requirements
(1) Deliver 15 teaching periods weekly, modeling IB PYP practices and maintaining
direct student engagement.
(2) Conduct regular student assessments and provide academic feedback. 6. Additional duties
(1) Support school promotion and marketing recruitment efforts as per the school’s strategic requirements.
(2) Collaborate with internal departments to execute major events outlined by the SMT.
(3) Attend school and government meetings/events to strengthen institutional relationships.
(4) Complete other tasks assigned by leadership.
