Role: Head of Performing Arts (Whole School)
A prestigious British K12 school-Beijing
Purpose:
• Deliver an ambitious, broad, and differentiated Performing Arts curriculum aligned with the designated framework.
• Support student progress and development as a teacher and form tutor.
• Help raise student attainment and foster creative potential.
Reports to: Head of School
Direct Reports: Performing Arts teachers
Other Key Contacts: Curriculum leaders, parents, students
Key Responsibilities & Success Measures:
1. Community Engagement (Internal)
• Build trust with students, parents, and colleagues. Motivate students and communicate effectively with parents.
• Support school morale and marketing initiatives.
Success: Parent feedback, student re-enrolment.
2. Teaching & Learning
• Deliver a high-quality, inclusive curriculum using varied methods and modern tech (including NAE’s Global Campus).
• Maintain discipline and a safe learning environment.
• Provide targeted support and diagnostic feedback.
Success: Student outcomes, learning walks, performance management, NAU engagement.
3. Pastoral Care
• Act as a form tutor. Lead extracurriculars, join trips, and support school life.
• Handle assessments as required.
Success: Student achievement measures.
4. Planning & Preparation
• Plan exemplary learning programmes (in/out of class) using homework and effective assessments.
• Track and report on attendance, progress, and attainment.
Success: Student achievement measures.
5. Quality Assurance
• Follow and contribute to school QA procedures and curriculum evaluation.
Success: Internal/external QA results.
6. Professional Development
• Engage in staff development and performance management.
Success: Performance management review, NAU engagement.
7. Leadership & Strategy
• Lead the Performing Arts department (Drama, Music, Dance) with a clear vision aligned to school values.
• Handle planning, review, and represent the department in leadership meetings.
Success: Performance management review.
8. Curriculum Leadership (Juilliard/NAE focus)
• Lead the designated framework. Ensure curriculum coherence (primary to secondary), skill progression, and alignment with school‘s standards, exam requirements, and the bilingual context.
Person Specification:
Essential:
• 5+ years’ teaching experience in performing arts.
• Proven ability to innovate curriculum and achieve high student outcomes.
• Experience with international curriculum and parent partnerships.
• Strong communication and student motivation skills.
Desirable: IGCSE/A Level experience.
