Job title PYP Coordinator
Reports to: Head of Primary
Location : Shanghai
Package : 36-42k pre tax +6k housing allowance
NOTE: Must have PGCE or qts or state license , Official Certified Program Trainer by the International Baccalaureate Network (IBEN)
Job purpose
The role of the PYP coordinator is to work collaboratively with all PYP teachers and the administration in primary school as a key member of the School Leadership Team by facilitating, organizing, and implementing the PYP program.
Duties and responsibilities
Major roles include, but are not limited to, the following:
Documentation:
o Be familiar with and promote understanding and use of all PYP documents.
o Ensure that copies of IB publications pertaining to the PYP section of the school are available to all staff members.
o Lead the process of developing or reviewing on a regular basis the school’s curriculum documents, including the program of inquiry and scope and sequence documents.
o Ensure that policies are formulated for teaching and learning language and for assessment.
o Ensure that the IB relevant documents are shared with relevant staff.
Resource management:
o Make recommendations for the purchase of suitable resources to support the implementation of the program.
o Ensure the grades/departments carrying out relevant processes for the purchased resources.
o Be responsible for the establishment of an inventory of resources to facilitate efficient collaboration.
Supporting:
o Support the head of primary to supervise, evaluate and support the academic capabilities of all PYP teachers.
o Other IB programs including early years/MYP/DP/CP to ensure the continuity of programs.
o Set up systems for communication and collaboration among all programs.
Communication:
o Regular communication with IBO, IB schools and other IB related communities.
o Ensure that all requirements of the IB concerning the implementation of the program are adhered to.
o Set up systems for communication and collaboration among all PYP teachers involved in implementing the program.
o Conduct parent information sessions, students-led conference, 3-way conference and other PYP related meetings for learning community.
o Attend meetings with learning communities so that they have some understanding of the goals of the PYP.
o Publish articles pertaining to the program in the school media.
Teaching:
o Teach 6-8 periods each week.
o Observe classes regularly and provide feedbacks.
o Demo lesson to continue developing understanding of PYP implementation and provide timely and practical support for teachers.
Training and professional development:
o Make recommendations regarding professional development opportunities on and off campus.
o Assist teams or individuals in developing and documenting units of inquiry and individual student inquiries.
o Plan and organize school level and external IB-approved training for teachers and administrators.
o Arrange and provide in-school trainings for teachers.
o Arrange and provide in-school workshops for parents.
