1. School & Position Overview

The Housemaster is a pivotal pastoral leadership role, responsible for creating a safe, nurturing, and dynamic "home away from home" for a designated group of boarding students. This role combines the duties of a parent, mentor, manager, and educator, requiring unwavering dedication, emotional intelligence, and strong administrative skills.
2. Key Responsibilities
A. Pastoral Care & Student Wellbeing (Primary Focus):
Act as the primary guardian and pastoral figure for all students in the house, providing daily care, support, and guidance.
Foster a strong sense of community, identity, and belonging within the house.
Proactively monitor and support the physical, emotional, and mental health of each student.
Implement the school's safeguarding and child protection policies rigorously; be the first point of contact for any welfare concerns.
Manage student behavior within the house in line with school policies, promoting respect, responsibility, and integrity.
Provide conflict resolution and mediate peer relationships.
B. Academic & Personal Development:
Work closely with academic staff to monitor students' academic progress and attendance.
Provide a structured and conducive environment for evening study (prep).
Guide students in developing effective time-management, organizational, and life skills.
Encourage and facilitate participation in co-curricular and house activities.
C. House Management & Operations:
Ensure the house environment is clean, safe, well-maintained, and welcoming.
Manage house budgets for activities, amenities, and minor improvements.
Supervise the house team, which may include Assistant Housemasters, Tutors, and domestic staff.
Organize and lead regular house meetings and events.
Manage student logistics: exeats (weekend leaves), travel arrangements, permissions, and inventory of room keys.
D. Communication & Community Building:
Maintain regular, clear, and proactive communication with parents/guardians regarding their child's welfare and progress.
Collaborate effectively with teaching staff, school nurses, counselors, and other support services.
Build positive relationships with all members of the house community.
Write comprehensive termly reports and references for students as required.
E. Duty & Supervision:
Participate in a structured duty roster, including evenings, weekends, and school holidays as required.
Provide supervision during meals, study periods, and recreational times.
Be on-call for emergencies and critical situations.
3. Person Specification
Essential Qualifications & Experience:
A Bachelor's degree.
Significant experience in a pastoral/boarding role within an educational setting, preferably in an international school.
Proven leadership and team management skills.
In-depth understanding of child adolescent development and safeguarding best practices.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with cultural sensitivity.
Resilience, patience, empathy, and a high level of emotional intelligence.
Strong organizational and administrative abilities.
Fluency in English.
Desirable Attributes:
Teaching qualification and/or experience.
Relevant training in counseling, first aid, or mental health first aid.
Experience living and working in a multicultural environment.
Proficiency in an additional language.
