Job Overview
We are seeking an innovative and passionate Design & Technology Teacher to join our dynamic department. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering engaging and challenging DT lessons to students. The ideal candidate will foster a learning environment that encourages creativity, critical thinking, and practical problem-solving, preparing students to become future-ready innovators. Experience with IGCSE, A-Level Design curricula is essential.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching & Learning
Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality DT lessons that cater to the needs of the whole ability range, in line with the school’s curriculum framework IGCSE, A-Level.
Teach a range of specialist areas, including but not limited to: Product Design, Resistant Materials, Electronics, and Digital Design (CAD/CAM).
Ensure the safe and proper use of tools, machinery, and equipment in the workshop, adhering to all health and safety regulations.
Integrate cross-curricular links with STEAM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math) to provide a holistic education.
Curriculum Development
Contribute to the continuous development and refinement of the DT curriculum.
Develop engaging project briefs that allow students to explore the design cycle: Investigating, Planning, Creating, and Evaluating.
Stay updated with the latest technological advancements and integrate modern practices (e.g., 3D printing, laser cutting, robotics) into the curriculum.
Assessment & Reporting
Assess, record, and report on the development, progress, and attainment of students as required by school policies.
Provide timely and constructive feedback to students to support their academic growth.
Prepare students thoroughly for internal and external examinations IGCSE, A-Level.
Classroom & Resource Management
Manage the DT workshop and resources efficiently, including inventory management and ordering of materials.
Maintain a stimulating and organized learning environment that displays student work and promotes design thinking.
Pastoral Care & Community
Act as a Form Tutor (if required), supporting the pastoral development of a group of students.
Participate in parent-teacher conferences, school events, and professional development workshops.
Contribute to the co-curricular activity program (e.g., Robotics Club, Makerspace Club).
Person Specification
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Design & Technology, Product Design, Engineering, or a related field.
A recognized teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, QTS, Teaching License) is mandatory.
Minimum of [e.g., 2+] years of teaching experience in an international school setting.
Proven experience teaching [e.g., IGCSE and A-Level Design & Technology / IB MYP Design].
Skills & Knowledge
Strong knowledge of the design cycle and health & safety protocols in a workshop environment.
Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or Onshape) and experience with CAM machinery (laser cutters, 3D printers, CNC routers).
Excellent command of English (written and verbal); additional language skills are a plus.
