Job Purpose
To oversee the Science department, guide its strategic direction, conduct classroom observations, mentor teaching staff, facilitate weekly Professional Learning Community (PLC) sessions, manage curriculum development, and collaborate across iGCSE and A-level programmes to enhance academic results, student wellbeing, global awareness, and creative thinking.
You will serve as a role model for the organisation and the school, helping to maintain a strong global reputation.
Key Result Areas & Performance Measurement
Engagement & Interaction – School Ambassador
• Launch new initiatives to boost student engagement and participation
• Take part in school events and enrichment activities
• Lead innovation in curriculum and co-curricular programmes
• Encourage parental involvement through quality reporting and timely updates
Measured by: NAE performance management review, PD feedback, departmental QA feedback, parent surveys
Teaching & Learning
• Provide effective and motivating learning experiences
• Uphold high expectations for student achievement and classroom behaviour
• Encourage problem-solving, creativity, and design thinking across all ability levels
• Maintain a safe, welcoming, and stimulating learning environment
• Use data-informed, differentiated approaches to address varied learning needs
• Integrate ICT tools to support digital learning
• Act as a Form Tutor and support the delivery of iGCSE and IAL curricula
Measured by: student surveys, attainment and achievement data, behaviour records
Planning & Preparation
• Design and implement schemes of work aligned with curriculum and school policies
• Develop short-, medium-, and long-term plans based on curriculum goals
• Ensure thorough assessment practices that provide timely and meaningful feedback
Professional & Personal Development
• Take ownership of your professional learning and stay current with pedagogical developments
• Regularly deliver CPD sessions to fellow teachers
• Follow school policies, procedures, and values
• Use reflection to continuously improve teaching effectiveness

Qualifications
• A recognised teaching qualification (e.g. PGCE, QTS or equivalent) required
• A strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting student welfare, including a willingness to complete child protection training
Skills
• Deep expertise in the subject area, with the ability to make complex topics accessible to teenagers
• Strong classroom management adapted to adolescent development and social dynamics
• Excellent communication skills for teaching, mentoring, and guiding students
• Competence in using technology and digital tools for subject-specific learning and research
Knowledge
• Thorough understanding of the curriculum, examination requirements, and effective teaching strategies for secondary students
• Awareness of current challenges and opportunities in education, including career guidance, social-emotional learning, and student independence
