We are a leading K–12 international school in Suzhou, offering a full International Baccalaureate (IB) continuum from Primary Years Programme (PYP) through Diploma Programme (DP). We are seeking a dedicated Teacher Librarian to join our team and strengthen our library as a hub for inquiry, literacy, and student engagement.
Position Overview
The Teacher Librarian plays a critical role in supporting the IB framework and fostering a culture of reading, research, and information literacy across the school. This position combines library management with instructional responsibilities, collaborating with teachers and students to integrate information skills into the curriculum.
Key Responsibilities
- Library Management
- Oversee daily operations of the school library, including collection development, cataloging, circulation, and shelving
- Manage library budget and maintain an up-to-date, diverse collection aligned with IB philosophy
- Ensure the library is a welcoming, safe, and organized space for students and staff
Instructional Collaboration
- Partner with classroom teachers to design and deliver information literacy lessons integrated into units of inquiry and subject courses
- Support students in research skills, citation practices, and critical evaluation of sources
Embed media literacy and digital citizenship across grade levels
- IB Programme Support
- Provide dedicated support for Theory of Knowledge (TOK) and Extended Essay (EE) processes, including research guidance, source evaluation, and academic integrity
Collaborate with DP coordinators and subject teachers to ensure students meet IB library and research requirements
- Guide students through the IB information literacy framework
Literacy & Community Engagement
- Promote a school-wide reading culture through book fairs, author visits, reading challenges, and library promotions
- Curate displays and themed collections that celebrate diversity and global perspectives
- Serve as a resource specialist for both students and faculty
Administrative Duties
Maintain accurate library records and produce usage reports
Supervise library aides and student volunteers
Stay current with trends in school librarianship, IB pedagogy, and educational technology
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Library Science, Education, English, or a related field (Master's preferred)
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a school library or similar educational setting
- Experience supporting IB programmes (PYP/MYP/DP) is highly desirable
- Demonstrated ability to teach information literacy and research skills
- Familiarity with IB TOK and Extended Essay requirements
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in library management systems and educational technology
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural, international school environment
